"The construction of atomic power plant in Azerbaijan will be topical 20 years later", director of the Radiation Problems Institute Adil Garibov said.
He said there are several phases in nuclear energy supply of the country. "The country should have a nuclear reactor, human resources and experience of nuclear process management. Considering it, we made our first proposal to create nuclear research reactor in Azerbaijan. According to the project jointly carried out by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), location of the reactor has been already determined and it was provided with the communication lines".
Garibov said that expenditures for the atomic energy production is 15-20 percent lower than oil and gas energy. "As an expert, I can say that Azerbaijan will make this step to have atomic energy, because the energy security of the country is the main duty of the government. Oil price increases rapidly. There will be no country, which can willingly use oil and gas to produce the energy 5-10 years later. The country gets double, twice incomes from the oil deals. I consider that Azerbaijan will put this issue on agenda in the near future".
