The average annual rate of software piracy decline hit 2% in Azerbaijan. According to the IDC Research Company, the level of software piracy reached 88 percent in the country in 2010, Microsoft Azerbaijan Corporate Manager Eldar Jahangirov said.

Jahangirov said the IDC will issue a new report by late spring.

"Today, positive thoughts are gradually forming about the advantages of using legal software on the Azerbaijani market. Gradually, the public and private entities are transferring their computer fleet to legal software based on corporate licensing agreements," he said.

Jahangirov said corporate licensing has many advantages for companies and institutions, as well as ordinary users. For example, employees working at companies using corporate licensing can also use their legal software at home.

In terms of purchasing pirated products, this trend is gradually being pushed to the sidelines, he said. Today, downloading illegal software from the Internet is gaining popularity.

According to the IDC, 32% of Windows 7 illegal distribution kits contain a hidden code that allows a violator to gain access to the user’s personal data.

Annually, attackers steal $70 million from U.S. banks using such mechanisms.

In terms of viruses, according to IDC data, 10,000 new viruses appear every day, Jahangirov said.
