Mexico City hosted two events on Novruz holiday, the press service of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Mexico reported.
The Chamber of Deputies of Mexico's Congress hosted an event on the Novruz international holiday. It was attended by Azerbaijani Ambassador to Mexico Ilgar Mukhtarov, the staff of Iranian, Iraqi, Turkish embassies, members of the Mexican Congress, the management of Mexico City, members of the Commission on Human Rights of State of Mexico.
The event was opened by Ambassador Ilgar Mukhtarov, saying that upon Azerbaijan's initiative, in February 2010 the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on International Day of Novruz. The Ambassador congratulated the participants, saying that Novruz has a history of 5,000 years and rich traditions.
Also, noting that the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan continues, Mukhtarov said that all nations have the right to celebrate their national holidays in their native lands.
In this regard, the ambassador said that one million Azerbaijanis who were forced to leave their homelands are still deprived of this right.
Novruz was also celebrated at Azerbaijan's Embassy in Mexico. The event was attended by the ambassadors of Ukraine and Turkey in Mexico, representatives of local Azerbaijani, Ukrainian, Russian, Georgian, Tatar and Jewish communities.
