A gas leak has caused a fire in Mirjalal Street in Baku today. Although the fire was extinguished within a short time, most of the cables burned down. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology said the fire has damaged telephone lines of 15,000 subscribers relating mainly to ATE 568 and 569.
"The fire that broke out as a result of a gas leak has caused great damage to telephone lines of 15,000 subscribers. The damage is estimated at about $1 million manat. Telephone lines are seriously damaged. In order to restore them, it is necessary to take measures to eliminate gas leakage. As soon as this work is completed, we will begin to take steps to restore affected telephone lines," Deputy Director of Baku Telefon Rabitasi production association Khankishi Kishiyev said. "Officers of the gas supply agency are currently working at the site. It think it will take 15-20 days to restore the phone lines. Subscribers whose telephone numbers begin with the prefixes 512, 560, 568 and 569 are left without telephone service. Various agencies and offices account for 10% of the affected 15,000 subscribers," Kishiyev noted.
