Azerbaijan’s State Committee for Work with Religious Associations issued certificates to 32 religious communities today.
According to information, 30 of them are Islamic, 2 are Georgian Orthodox communities. Committee chairman Hidayet Orujov noted that according to amendments made into law on “Freedom of religious belief” religious communities could not function without registration.
He said that 782 religious communities had appealed to State Committee for Work with Religious Associations for registration. 748 of them are Islamic, 34 are non-Islamic. Up to this day, 425 religious communities had registered, 408 of them are Islamic, 17 are non-Islamic (9 Christian, 6 Jewish, 1 Krishna, 1-Behai). 302 are re-registered religious communities.
To him, after the consideration of appeals of 11 religious communities they had been rejected. The cause is the shortcoming of necessary documents related to the registration. Committee chairman said that those communities may appeal for registration again.
During meeting with Hidayet Orujov, community representatives asked help for reconstruction of mosques, minarets.
Orujov noted that one of the amendments made into the law was the Committee’s opinion on construction of a place to pray. He said that unfinished construction works should be stopped for this purpose. Speaking about the selling of religious literary and religious things Committee chairman told minister of religions that this selling may be realized only by permission of the Committee at specialized shops or at special corners of the book shops.
