European and Asian Media Forum organized by Russia RIA Novosti news agency has started in Moscow.
Heads of well-known media outlets, top managers and public figures from CIS and Baltic states are attending the forum.
Making a keynote speech at the forum editor-in-chief of RIA Novosti Svetlana Mironyuk said 140 representatives from 14 countries were attending the forum.
She said in most cases the results of the professional mutual activity of journalists prevailed over political, economic cooperation in the interstate context.
Mironyuk said the issues to be discussed in the forum were divided into three groups.
These are technological issues (ways of delivering information, multimedia), journalism as a profession and political, ideological issues.
She added that media outlets were developing in the post-Soviet area and underlined the importance of keeping up with the world practice and being ahead of time.
She said struggle against plagiarism was the main element of freedom of speech and pluralism.
This is the fourth forum of the media representatives of post-Soviet countries.
The first forum was held at the initiative of RIA Novosti in 2006.
The aim of the forum is to discuss problems of media outlets in the modern world. This year’s forum is broader – heads of over 150 famous media and internet publications of the post-Soviet countries, a lot of guests are attending the event.
The program of the forum includes meetings of the participants with their Russian colleagues, heads of state bodies, famous politicians and public figures.
The forum is held in the format of discussions, roundtables, panels, discussions.
It will focus on multimedia, new information technologies, press and coverage of developments, mass media and problems of international cooperation, television, the role of individuals in multimedia, journalism in the information society, tolerance and problems of professional ethics.
Azerbaijani delegation of heads of Azerbaijani media outlets and representatives of non-governmental organizations to the Forum is headed by chief of political analysis and information department of Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Fuad Akhundov.
