Rector of the Azerbaijan Medical University supports educating public about the the bill on "Reproductive health and family planning" in an undistorted manner.

"Opposing this law demonstrates lack of education. There are many children in the world who were born through artificial insemination," Rector of the Medical University Ahliman Amiraslanov said at a round table on the topic "The law on "Reproductive health and family planning" and "The situation with breast tumor and cervical cancer in Azerbaijan" on Aug. 25.

He said reproductive treatment should not be opposed. "Many families in Azerbaijan divorce for the simple reason that they do not have children. To avoid a divorce, some spouses are sent for treatment abroad. Personally, I had helped several of these families," said Amiraslanov.

"There are families in Azerbaijan in which a sick child is born, because the couples themselves are susceptible to various diseases. If the bill is adopted, it will be possible to prevent the birth of sick children," Amiraslanov said.

"Many opinions concerning the articles about the donor bank, and surrogate mother were made during discussions over the bill on "Reproductive health and family planning" at the parliament's last session," Member of the Azerbaijani Parliamentary Committee on Social Policy Malahat Hasanova said at the meeting.

She said there is a serious need for this bill, so, the society must be provided with full and accurate information about its provisions.

"Our goal should be to further educate women about it," said Azerbaijani Parliamentarian Gultakin Hajibayli said, speaking at the event. "Majority of women does not know how to prevent diseases," she said.
