The National Television and Radio Council of Azerbaijan considers it necessary to regulate the Internet in order to counter cyber crime, said head of the Council Nushirevan Magerramli, according to Novosti-Azerbaijan.

"The point is that in Europe there is a need to regulate the Internet. Taking into account the experience of western countries, we have put forward a proposal to apply this experience in our country. In response, the council was accused of the strive to control the virtual space of Azerbaijan.

But I'm just sure that there must be some kinds of regulatory mechanisms, regardless of who they belong to - either the State or non-governmental sector, as an uncontrollable internet threatens with cyber crime, creates problems in the education of younger generations", said N. Magerramli Wednesday.

According to him, possible ways of regulating the Internet are currently being discussed.

"There is a need for establishing an appropriate legislative framework to regulate the Internet. It is also necessary to determine the extent of the liability and responsibility for the offense in the virtual space", concluded N. Magerramli.
