Shahnaz Hulami, human rights activist and Azerbaijani journalist, went on hunger strike in the Tebriz prison of Iran from December 19, reports Day.Az with reference to Mediaforum website.

As is reported, the cause of the hunger strike is the illegal arrest. The journalist is imposed to physical and moral pressure. Earlier the journalist was held in the same camera with drug addicts and murderers and now with immoral women.

It should be noted that in November of 2008 the Tebriz Revolutionary Court sentenced Shahnaz Gulami to 6 months in prison charging her with holding a propaganda against the statehood.

From 1999 until 2003 Gulami was held in jail for her political activity. In 2006 she was detained for a month due to participation in protests against publication of a caricature, humiliating Azerbaijanis, in the Iran newspaper.
