The Nasimi district court, presided by judge Shahin Abdullayev has held a court hearing on the case of "homosexual" Sergey Strekalin, facing charges of stabbing Azadlyg newspaper correspondent Agil Halil, said journalist's defender Elchin Sadikhov.

He noted that state prosecutor, speaking during the process, demanded to find Serget Strelakin guilty under articles 127.1 and 234.1 and sentence him to 2 years in prison.

Sadikhov noted that the verdict will be passed at tomorrow session to be held at 10.00.

In line with the materials of the case, on March 13 of 2008 the journalist was stabbed in the chest.

Sergey Strekalin was charged under article 127.1 (deliberate causing of slight harm to health, not life threatening) and 234.1 (illegal production, purchase, storage, transportation, transfer or sale of narcotic substances, psychotropic substances or precursors) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

Strekalin met Halil in 2005 near Ganjlik metro station and had intimate relationships with him.

It should be noted that Halil was brutally beaten in Baku, as he was taking photos in the olive garden and he had his fingers broken.
