Azerbaijan’s Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov has today signed a document on his country’s joining Council of Europe’s Convention on Cybercrime, reports APA’s Bureau.
After that, Azeri Minister met with CE Secretary General Terry Davis to discuss the development of relations in the IT sector.
Terry Davis expressed his gratitude for Azerbaijan’s joining the convention and expressed hope that the country’s parliament will soon ratify the document. He unveiled his plan to visit Azerbaijan at the year-end.
The Convention on Cybercrime is the first international treaty seeking to address cybercrime and Internet crimes by harmonizing national laws, improving investigative techniques and increasing cooperation among nations.
It is the first international treaty on crimes committed via the Internet and other computer networks, dealing particularly with infringements of copyright, computer-related fraud, child pornography and violations of network security. It also contains a series of powers and procedures such as the search of computer networks and interception.
The convention was adopted in Budapest in November, 2001, involved 41 CoE member countries and ratified by 22.
