"I plan to reject the Azerbaijani citizenship..."

"I have no fault. If driving a car is a crime, let them punish me for it.

I have worthily represented my people and my country on international contests. I have reached achievements, owing to which I have attained raising of our state flag and performance of the anthem of Azerbaijan. My achievements were highly appreciated by our respected resident Ilham Aliyev. I receive presidential scholarship, yet I have been humiliated without any grounds. We will write a letter to the President of the country on behalf of our family. I will ask him to deal with this issue".

The due announcement was made by member of Azerbaijan's combined boxing team Ramal Amanov, arrested by officials of the State Department for combat with organized crime under the Internal Ministry and released following the detainment for a definite period in the department.

Amanov explained his detainment by the police along with the bronze prize winner of the Sydney Olympic Games Vuqar Alekperov as follows: "I was sitting in a tea house near the Ganjlik metro station with my friends. Vuqar Alekperov approached us and asked to come with him if we had time. We did not mind. Two men were waiting for Vuqar in the appointed place. After talking a little, he called me with him. When I asked what happened, he said: "Drive to Ganjlik on this car and I will soon come. These people did not object and therefore I followed Vuqar. In a few minutes Vuqar also arrived there. After he took keys away from me, I asked what happened. He said this person owes him for already seven months. Vuqar said he will bring money soon and get keys from the car.

Yet in the appointed time policemen came and arrested us".

The 24 year old boxer noted that he was tortured in the head department for combat with organized crime under the Interior Ministry: "I was almost not asked about anything. I said I receive the presidential scholarship and they asked me: "Are you cool?" and beaten me. They tortured me with current. I was shocked. This continued for two hours and them they threw me into the basement and I had been shivering there until morning. I was not able to move due to pain and feeling bad.

I was released only after Aghajan Abiyev's interference. Yet I could not stay at home for a long period of time. I was brought to Semashko hospital. They did not provide any medical aid to me after they learned where I was beaten. They only gave me Dimedrol and I fell asleep.

After Aghajan bey arrived and made a stir, I was sent to X-ray, placed in reanimation. Most of my internal organs are damaged. Why should it be so? I have not done anything against the state system and the President. I can not take part in contests in such a state.

The boxer noted that due to this he will appeal to the International Olympic Committee:

"I have talked to Aghajan bey. After this event I do not want to represent Azerbaijan. Sportsmen are not treated this way in any other country. Therefore, I want to represent another country. The opposite side has written an explanatory note and declared that I was not guilty but they continued to torture me. Have I committed a murder?

Spokesman for the Internal Ministry Sadiq Gezalov rebutted the information about torturing of the boxer. He noted that the announcements about tortures are groundless.
