A skeleton of an unknown animal was found on May 14 during archaeological digs in the basement of a house in Gusar region, built 100-150 years ago.

According to Qahraman Aghayev, head of the archaeological expedition of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Science, working in Quba, the preliminary examination of the skeleton allows to propose that the animal belongs to the dinosaur species: "The skeleton is 75 cm in height, 45 cm in body length, 10-12 cm in head length, 20-21 cm in tail length. Skin remainders are observed here are there on a well worn skeleton. Preliminary studies showed that the animal lived 200-300 years ago.

Aghayev noted that as this biped was smaller in size than the dinosaurs, therefore, it is not likely that the skeleton belongs to a dinosaur: "At the same time, the skeleton, discovered in the Gusar region, belongs to the dinosaur species and this is a rare fact, which proves existence of such animals on the territory of Azerbaijan".

Stressing the need for research of the skeleton by paleontologists and anthropologists, Aghayev noted that the bones of this uncommon animal will soon be sent to Baku.
