Comments by Efruz Muduroglu, Landmark Managing Director
At approximately 2:00pm on Thursday 15th March 2007 whilst pumping concrete onto the roof of the 20th level of the Landmark 3 building, the temporary supporting formwork failed.
This resulted in the spillage of wet concrete onto the terrace and then the street below. Three workers at the site and two pedestrians in streets below suffered slight injuries and were admitted to hospital. Three of the injured discharged from hospital the same day and two were detained for further observation, both were later released. Cars parked immediately adjacent to the construction site were also damaged by the spillage.
After inspection and assessment at the incident site by senior staff of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), work commenced to remove the resultant debris and a short statement was issued by the MES to be followed up when more information became available after the precise causes of the failure were established.
Local media reports appear to have misunderstood the situation and unfortunately incorrectly stated that two floors of the building collapsed and that the building has been structurally damaged by the incident. As part of their normal protocols, our international clients subject the building to regular inspections by independent foreign experts, who are satisfied with its strength and structural integrity. Press reports have also exaggerated the number and extent of injured persons together with damage to cars in the adjacent streets.

We trust that the above clarifies the situation and would like to take this opportunity to thank the tenants of Landmark and our neighbours for their generous forbearance of any inconvenience that resulted from this unfortunate event.
