"Our stance on pulling foreign television off the air is determined. This decision is unanimous, we notified Russian and Turkish embassies through the foreign ministry," said Chairman of National Television and Radio Council Nushiravan Maharramli.

He told the APA that foreign television can broadcast only through cable and satellite, as required by international standards.

The council made a decision to pull off the air Kanal D, SamanYolu, RTR and ORT. Azerbaijan granted a license to some 10 cable broadcasters. The subscription fee for cable television is expected to be reduced and the package should include at least 50 channels.
