Traditional Chess Festival started in Essen, Netherlands. Azerbaijani grand master Shahriyar Mammadyarov defeated the world's best chess player Vesselin Topalov.
Topalov who played with black chessmen gave up in 47th step. Ivan Sokolov, famous Dutch grand master who played with white chessmen was also defeated by Azerbaijani grand master. After three games Mammadyarov and Polgar have 2, 5 points and Topalov and Sokolov have 0, 5. The game with Polgar, the only woman grand master of the world ended in a draw. Shehriyar Mammadyarov will play against Topalov with black chessmen on October 26. Other Azerbaijani chess players, Resul Ibrahimov, Zeynab and Turkan Mammadyarovas compete in open tournament. They occupy 17th, 45th and 46th places among 87 players, APA reports.
