The International Conference on the subject "Islam and Youth: Education, Science and Enlightment" began today in Baku. The conference organizers are the Azerbaiajan Education Ministry, Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of State Foundations and Islamic Affairs of Kuwait.

As Trend reports, Education Minister Misir Mardanov said that Azerbaijan was an integral part of the Moslem world. Islamic values played an exclusive role in shaping the moral values of the Azerbaijani people, he noted. Azerbaijan being a tolerant state honours highly civilized and democratic values. He also stated that forcible practicing any confession or religion was not admissible for the population of the country.

According to him, the conference is held in an uneasy time for the Moslem world. The Minister voiced hope that during discussions to be held the ways for enlightenment of the youth in the context of the Islamic values, as well as holding away from terrorism and extremism, will be found.

The state advisor of Azerbaijan Idayat Orudjev addressed also the conference stating that advocacy of national and moral values was part of the state policy and would be pursued further.

At the conference which passed involving Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Deputy Minister of the State Foundations and Islamic Affairs of Kuwait Adil al Filah, Chairman of the educational commission of the Turkish Parliament Tayir Altinguladj and a number of scholars, such subjects, as consensus in Islam, the issues of protection from extremism, globalization and the Moslem youth, have been discussed.

The conference participants noted huge importance of such conference and voiced hope that it would resolve the tasks set within its frameworks.
