"We are glad that none of British newspapers published cartoons of Prophet Muhammad," Lory Bristow, the British Ambassador to Azerbaijan, stated at a meeting with Rafig Aliyev, the chairman of the State Committee for Religious Organizations.

Bristow expressed regret in relation to publication of the cartoons of Prophet Muhammad in some European newspapers and called indignation of the Azerbaijani society positive fact.

"The UK and Azerbaijan could not remain aside from the last events," he added. Touching upon the reaction of Iran, Syria and Indonesia, the British Ambassador underlined necessity of setting of dialogue between the West and the East, Trend reports referring to the press service of the Committee.

"We are interested in the image of Islam in the West, as well as the image of the West in the Islamic world," the diplomat stressed.

During the meeting the sides held exchange of opinions on the role of the religions in the modern Azerbaijani society, as well as the position of the Moslem countries in the conditions of globalization.

In his turn, Aliyev noted that both the West and the East must understand impossibility of separate development.
