Elmira Suleymanova, the Azerbaijani Ombudsman, called Azeries to assist people suffering from blood diseases.
The Ombudsman voiced an initiative to organize within 10 days a donor rally to help children needing blood transfusions, especially those kids that suffer from hemophilia and thalassemia. Employees of the Ombudsman’s Office will join this mission and are calling anybody else who is willing to donate their blood for kids.Suleymanova noted that Azerbaijan has around 3,000 children with blood diseases, 217 of them suffer from hemophilia, 627 – from thalassemia. The Director of the Scientific and Research Institute of Hematology and Trans-physiology, Azad Hajiyev, said that every of 12 people suffer from this disease in Azerbaijan. Hajiyev announced that two state programs will be adopted shortly to improve the situation.
