Obviously, the quantity (attention: not the quality) of the traffic received from Twitter will vary depending on the amount of followers we have, and how we have gotten them (check my Twitter experiment about the Twitter Massive Follow system), but there’re certainly some tips that can be applied in order to increase the chances of getting a click and having a visitor coming straight to our site.
Anyway before starting let me tell you that you should worry about building a loyal followers list, not about building a huge number. I guarantee you a small but loyal group of followers will result on a much better click rate than a huge “follow me or I will unfollow you” group. And what we really want is a high conversion rate, not just visitors that will only make our bounce rate higher.
Tips to increase Twitter Traffic
Caught your reader’s attention:
Titles: (or in this case, the text that goes before
or after the Twitter link) Each Twitter account follows an average of
1000 guys (ok, this is totally wrong, but it helps my purpose) and those
1000 guys are sending 10 tweets per day, that will result on 10’000
tweets that the owner of a Twitter account will have. That said (again,
this is just a guess, an example) you need your Tweet to be original and
eye catching, else, chances are you won’t get a single click.
But what can be defined as a good title?
It really depends from the viewpoint we see it. In this case we need a
title that’s shocking, something that wakes up our reader’s curiosity.
This can be achieved by writing that really sounds original or something
that can’t be seeing everyday but without cheating (don’t write: see
this pig with wings flying across Facebook offices). Get the point?
Writing “aggressively” suing caps or !!!! will work too, just don’t
overdo it because most people associates that kind of strategy with spam
(really).
Play it fair
And be patient. In order to get real Twitter traffic you need to have
real followers, and not the bunch of follow me or I’ll unfollow you
users.Having a counter indicating you have 30K followers may be great to
get respect and reputation, but really, why would you want such a huge
army if none of them are even interested in what you tweet about?Apart
from that, even if it’s your lucky day and receive, let’s say, 200
visits from those 30K, get real: those are will only increase your
bounce rate, again.Having only 60 followers may look like you
Be personal
I consider it’s really IMPORTANT to give your Twitter account a
personal touch. I’ve seen hundreds of Twitter accounts sharing “business
– only” tweets, and, with the time, it turns to be really boring. If
people would only want to see what happening around your blog they would
just visit it every, let’s say, three days and that’s all. If people
are following you on Twitter it’s because they would also like to see
how a blogger’s life is, despite you’re a pro or a regular blogger.Share
personal thoughts, upload a nice picture from how the sunset looks
like from home…Keep your Twitter account personal, unless you clearly
state it’s only a business account. Having a personal design and not
just the ones that comes set up with your twitter account will help too.
Cooperate with the community.
Blogging is an activity which is based on the community, readers and
blogger cooperate to help each other and that’s what makes blogging so
profitable: readers learn and the blogger profits at the time he/she
learns too.If you cooperate, you will receive help too, and that
universal rule can be applied here.Retweeting some of your fellow
bloggers posts may encourage them to retweet some posts of yours too,
that will lead your post to be exposed to a tremendous audience.Don’t
wait till someone just retweet one of your posts (which actually can
obviously happen). It’s you who needs to take the first step.
Offering bonuses.
This is a great way to increase clicks and retweets. Offering bonuses
will surely encourage your followers and readers to spread your tweet
amongst the tweetsphere. An example of good bonus may be an entry for a
drawing. Be creative. You can actually see who retweeted your tweets, so
it’s easy to track the draw. There are surely more ways to increase
your Twitter traffic but unfortunately my mind can’t remember them as of
now. Would you help me? If you have more ways please drop a comment
with it, I’ll update the post and link to your blog with a doffolow link. /Smash Blog Tips/
