An unemployed person threw shoes at Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad while he was delivering a speech at a ceremony on Monday in the city of Sari, Mazandaran Province, Mehr quoted Ghasednews as reporting.

The man, identified as Rashid Sh., 45, who had been fired from a weaving factory, managed to get to the front row, started complaining about unemployment, and then threw his shoes at the president. However, the shoes did not hit Ahmadinejad.  The people participating in the ceremony chanted slogans in support of the president and expressed their disapproval of the insulting move. Ghasednews also quoted an unidentified government official as saying that the person in question had once thrown an egg or a tomato at former president Mohammad Khatami and was put under arrest. The official also thanked the people for expressing support for Ahmadinejad.
