A terrorist hijacking Kartepe ferryboat in Turkey was killed by the Turkish security forces, Governor of Istanbul Huseyn Avni Mutlu told journalists, Turkish newspapers reported.

The security forces conducted special operation Saturday morning to release the ferryboat passengers from hostage. The terrorist reportedly being PKK supporter was killed during the operation. His identity has not been confirmed yet. The security forces found unknown setting near him.

Some passengers jumped into the sea during the operation. They were rescued. Huseyn Avni Mutlu said all of 18 passengers and six crew members are safe.

An unknown person hijacked the ferryboat from Izmit port in eastern Turkey in the evening on November 11. The terrorist, who introduced himself as a member of HPG, PKK’s military wing, demanded from officials letting him to meet with journalists. The ferryboat was moving toward Yalova, but made force-stop near Silivri because lack of fuel. The security forces strengthened measures in the island of Imrali, where PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan is detained, to prevent the ferryboat’s possible approaching the island.
