The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has adopted unilateral sanctions against Iran's national airline Iran Air, which is engaged in cargo and passenger transportation. The IATA step has not affected the airline's activity, Iran Air said.

"The airline has offices in various countries around the world and it will sell tickets," Iran Air said in its statement.

IATA froze the Iranian airline Iran Air's accounts, and has suspended relations with it, BBC Farsi website reported the day before.

The IATA General Director for Public Relations Anthony Concil told BBC that the suspension of relations with Iran Air is associated with U.S. sanctions against the airline. He added that the suspension of relations with Iran Air should not affect the airline's activity.

Sanctions against the company rendering services to passengers are contrary to the West's democracy statements, Iran Air statement says.

IATA is the International Air Transport Association. Its purpose is the organization of safe, regular and profitable air transportation of passengers and goods and promoting joint work of all enterprises involved in international air transportation.

The Association acts as a coordinator and a representative of the air-transport industry's interests in areas such as flight safety, flight operations, tariff policy, maintenance, aviation safety and development of international standards.
