The world's third biggest double-curve arch dam is counting down to start generating electricity in Turkey beginning of the next year.
The 720-meter long Deriner Dam on the River Coruh in the northeast of the country rises 207 meters above the riverbed and 249 meters from the foundations.
It is expected to generate 2,118 million kilowatt hours of electricity which is equal to 1.1 percent of Turkey's total electricity production.
The dam is constructed by a consortium of Turkey's ERG Insaat A.S., Russian TechnoStroyExport, and Switzerland's Stucky, Abb (Alstom), Sulzer Hydro Ltd and Hydro Vevey companies.
The final estimated cost of the project was 1,387 million USD.
