Traffic on the Marelis area of the Georgian railway system was paralyzed throughout the night. The Georgian railway reported that a train loaded with gasoline coming from Azerbaijan was derailed and caught a fire.
The Emergency Situations Department’s employees were forced to evacuate residents of homes close to the Merelisi station, as the station also caught a fire .
The fire brigade was managed to extinguish the fire by morning and traffic was restored. Traffic on the Zestafoni-Kharagauli site restored to full.
Causes of the incident are being identified. The damage is being calculated.
