Turkish inflation accelerated in May, quickening for a second straight month and exceeding forecasts that food and energy prices would push the rate higher.

The annual consumer inflation rate jumped to 7.2% from 4.3 percent a month earlier, the statistics office in Ankara said on its website today.

The outcome exceeded the forecast of 5.7%, according to the median estimate of 12 economists surveyed by Bloomberg.

In the month, prices rose 2.4%.
