Iraqi businessmen want Turkey to open an alternative border crossing to that in Habur as they face problems due to slow customs transactions at the Habur border pass.

Kirkuk Chamber of Commerce's deputy chairman Nevzat Avci said Tuesday Iraq met a great of its needs from Turkey, and made almost 70 percent of its imports from Turkey.

"We are consuming Turkish goods, however our trade is hampered due to busy Habur border crossing," Avci told AA correspondent.

Avci is visiting the southern province of Mersin within the scope of an event organized by the Mediterranean Exporters' Association of Turkey (AKIB).

The deputy chairman said the Iraqi government also welcomed their demand to open a new border crossing with Turkey.

Avci also said the two countries had to open a new border gate to boost trade.
