Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Ambassador Janez Lenarcic, will be in Armenia on April 6 and 7 to participate in a forum organized by the International Federation for Human Rights, and to meet with senior Armenian officials.

The "Justice - New Challenges" forum will focus on the right to effective remedy before an independent tribunal.

During his two-day visit, Lenarcic will meet with Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian and Justice Minister Gevorg Danielyan, as well as with the Prosecutor General, Chairman of the Cassation Court and the Ombudsman, to discuss how ODIHR can assist the authorities in reforming Armenia's justice system and strengthening implementation of other OSCE human rights and democracy commitments.

Last month, ODIHR published a report on the trials that took place in the aftermath of the March 2008 post-election violence in Yerevan.

The report offers detailed recommendations on how to address the shortcomings identified.

Discussions will also focus on strengthening co-operation on the implementation of other OSCE commitments, including in the fields of elections, human rights and democratic institutions.
