Turkish State Minister Mehmet Aydin who is visiting Syria met Tuesday with Syrian President Bashar al-Asad.

Al-Asad said he was ready to facilitate scientific and technological cooperation and joint projects between the two countries.

Aydin briefed al-Asad on the science and technology institutions in Turkey and the way they function. The two assessed possible areas for cooperation in this field and discussed formalities for joint projects during the meeting.

Aydin met also with Prime Minister Naji al-Utri, Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani and Higher Education Minister Ghiath Barakat.

Following the meetings, Aydin said, "we signed a series of agreements with Syria under the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.

Those agreements let us to create a legal frame for technological cooperation. I believe that our technological cooperation will yield results very soon. We also think that scientific and technological cooperation will further deepen our bilateral relations with Syria."

Turkmani, on his part, said that they wanted to benefit from Turkey's experiences and study the structure of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).

Minister Aydin will attend the Syria-Turkey Science and Technology Forum before returning to Turkey on Thursday.
