A Conference of the American-Turkish Council, to be held in April, has been cancelled amid the adoption of resolution on the so-called "Armenian genocide" by the U.S. Committee on Foreign Affairs.

The annual meeting of the Council was scheduled for April 11-14 in Washington with the participation of Turkish and American senior officials.

However, the Turkish media reported that the conference was canceled because of recent developments in the U.S. Congress. Previously, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was expected to open the conference. He was to attend a meeting on nuclear safety upon U.S. President Barack Obama's invitation.

After adoption of the resolution on the so-called "genocide" by the Committee of the Congress, Turkey recalled its Ambassador Namik Tan from Washington and cancelled Erdogan's visit. It is still unknown who will represent Turkey at the meeting in Washington.

The annual Turkish-American Conference is held for 30 years. In 2009, the Turkish delegation was headed by Turkish Chief of General Staff Ilker Bashbug.
