The European Union Information Center was opened in the central province of Eskisehir as a result of joint initiatives by the Delegation of European Commission in Turkey and the Eskisehir Chamber of Commerce.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Harun Karacan, chairman of the Eskisehir Chamber of Commerce, said, Turkey is an indispensable part of Europe. We thought that opening of an EU Information Center was essential in our city with "European characteristics". The center will make valuable contributions to interaction and communication between Eskisehir and the European Union.

Marc Pierini, head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Turkey, said that it was the 18th center opened in Turkey.

He said that the center would respond to questions of residents in the city about the European Union.

Upon a question about Turkey's negotiation process, Pierini said that Turkey made progress in economy, trade, tourism and culture. He recalled that two agreements were signed on March 17 to build speed train route between Eskisehir and Istanbul and to finance small and medium-scale enterprises (SMSEs).
