18 March 2010 [17:15] - Today.Az
The Armenian National Assembly (Parliament) approved a bill on amendments to the Civil and Penal Codes.
The amendments will entitle Armenian citizens to appeal a court to demand to disclaim any media report insulting his/her dignity, if the publisher fails to prove the accuracy of information.
The opposition Heritage group voted against the bill, following “the negative conclusion of the Venice Commission.”
Meanwhile, one on the co-authors of the bill, Orinats Yerkir member Hovhannes Margaryan noted that the Venice Commission gave a positive conclusion on the bill but pointed out to a number of drawbacks.
