President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will leave for Isfahan on March 15 to take part in Conference on ‘Eternal Luminaries’ and launch several projects.
Isfahan deputy governor-general, Mohammad Mehdi Esmaeili told IRNA that some 33 revolutionary figures and elites including several Isfahani luminaries will be honored in the event.
In the meantime, the president will inaugurate several projects such as the biggest auto-making site in the province and Imam Khomeini Bridge during his visit to the picturesque city.
Isfahan is located about 340 km south of Tehran and is the capital of Isfahan Province and Iran's third largest city (after Tehran and Mashhad). It is the second most populous metropolitan area in Iran after Tehran.
Isfahan flourished from 1050 to 1722, particularly in the 16th century under Safavid dynasty, when it became the capital of Persia for the second time in its history.
Even today, the city retains much of its past glory. It is famous for its Islamic architecture, with many beautiful boulevards, covered bridges, palaces, mosques, and minarets.
The Naghsh-e Jahan Square in Isfahan is one of the biggest city squares in the world and an outstanding example of Iranian and Islamic architecture.
It has been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The city also has a wide variety of historic monuments ranging from the Sassanid to the Safavid dynasties.
