Armenia's Court of Appeal rejected today the suit filed by defenders of Nikol Pashinyan, arrested editor-in-chief of Haykakan Zhamanak daily, but declared amnesty toward the editor-in-chief.

The court did not change the decision of the Yerevan Kentron and Nork-Marash courts, in accordance with which Nikol was condemned to 7 years in prison.

As a result of the amnesty, the Court of Appeals cut off the sentence by half.

Hence, Nikol Pashinyan will be deprived of freedom for 3 years and 1 month.

Pashinyan’s lawyer Lusine Sahakyan qualified the sentence of the court as outrageous.

Nikol Pashinyan was accused of Art. 225 of the Armenian Crime Code (organization of mass disorders) and was justified by Art. 316 (violence towards a governmental representative).
