Iranian security forces have detained Mohammadtagi Karroubi, son of the former opposition presidential candidate and the general secretary of the Milli Etimad Party Mehdi Karroubi, at the airport and confiscated his passport, the official website of the party reported.

Korroubi's son was going to leave for the UK on matters related to his teaching at the university. Security forces of the airport gave no explanation about why his passport was confiscated.

Earlier, security forces prevented Karroubi's another son Hussein Karroubi from leaving the country.

Mehdi Karroubi was one of the major rivals of the victorious Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during the presidential election in Iran conducted on June 12.
