Turkey competes with France and Italy to host the tournament after Swedish-Norwegian joint bid failed.

Turkey, together with other bidders France and Italy, submitted its candidate dossier to host the 2016 European Football Championship, or Euro 2016, to UEFA on Monday.

Officials of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) handed Turkey's candidate dossier to UEFA officials at a ceremony at the headquarters of European football's governing body in Nyon, Switzerland.

Turkish State Minister for sports Faruk Nafiz Ozak, TFF Chairman Mahmut Ozgener and several other senior officials attended the ceremony.

At his speech, Ozgener told the ceremony that UEFA would feel the guarantee of a "unique and flawless" planning for Europe's top sports event, if Turkey picked the host country. Recalling that Turkish government had given assurance for financing, Ozgener said, "we are devoted, we are passionate and we are ready."

Turkey plans to host the tournament in nine stadiums in eight cities, with Istanbul hosting two stadiums. Turkish government had earlier pledged 1.4 billion USD to build seven new stadiums and redevelop other two stadiums, depending on Turkey's successful bid.
