A senior Iranian lawmaker has voiced Iran's readiness to get engaged in close security cooperation with other countries in the Middle East.
“Expansion of ties with the neighboring countries is the strategic policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and we, in Majlis, voice our support for further expansion of ties with Kuwait," Alaeddin Broujerdi, head of Iran's Parliament Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy said.
Broujerdi made the remarks in a meeting with his Kuwaiti counterpart Marzouq al-Ghanim in Kuwait City on Wednesday.
The Iranian lawmaker noted that "the enemies" are trying to promote distrust of Iran among the countries of the region.
“Iran favors optimal level of ties with the countries of the region and we are ready to sign bilateral and multilateral security agreements with these countries," Mehr news agency quoted Boroujerdi as saying.
Al-Ghanim, for his part, highlighted the necessity to enhance the level of ties between Iran and countries of the region.
