As Iranian lawmakers push for a bill to downgrade ties with London, Britain's envoy to Tehran said in an interview that his country is not happy with the proposal.

Iran has blamed the UK, amongst other Western countries, for the unrest that erupted after the June presidential election. It has also accused London of interfering in the country's internal affairs.

A bill sponsored by at least 35 lawmakers, according to Fars News Agency, is gaining momentum in the Parliament as Tehran studies the prospects of reducing its relations with London.

However, Ambassador Simon Gass told the Islamic Republic News Agency that his country does not wish to downgrade relations with Tehran.

Ambassador Gass also said the UK had not played a part in instigating riots and unrest in Iran.

The National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Majlis (Parliament) has been tasked with studying the bill, which calls for reduction of ties in cultural, commercial and economic fields with the UK.

The bill, expected to be put to vote in upcoming weeks, also calls for the government to "cut or suspend" its political ties with London.
