Three Iranian road traffic police officers have been killed by drug traffickers on the Zahedan-Khash road in southeastern Iran.

“Three of our officers were martyred by armed smugglers,” a deputy commander of the provincial road traffic police said on Sunday.

In the incident, road traffic police officers became suspicious about a vehicle passing by at a very high speed, Colonel Mohammad Arab explained.

“After the police ordered the car to stop, its passengers began firing at the police, which resulted in the death of three officers,” he added.

Khash is located 178 kilometers south of Zahedan, the capital of Sistan-Baluchestan province.
