Turkish foreign minister has said his country wanted to become one of the major actors in Europe.

Turkish foreign minister has said his country wanted to become one of the major actors in Europe.

"When Turkey becomes a European Union member, it will not be an ordinary member but one of the biggest in the Union. Turkey will be in Europe in the future as it was in the past. Europe is our continent, too, and we should have a say as much as everyone else in the future of Europe," Ahmet Davutoglu told Thursday a televised interview.

Responding to a question on relations with the United States, Davutoglu said Ankara and the Obama administration had minimized points of disagreements over the previous U.S. leadership under George W. Bush, adding that the U.S. support for Turkey in the latter's fight against terrorism had grown stronger.

Touching on the Cyprus issue, Davutoglu said Turkey held "the political and psychological higher ground," adding that Turkey would continue to support efforts for a settlement to reunify the island.
