Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili appointed Lasha Makatsaria Imereti governor, the president said in the Georgian Parliament today.

Makatsaria served as Georgian presidential administration deputy head before.

The president was forced to replace former Governor Michael Chogovadze the tragedy occurred during the dismantling and disruption of the former Glory Memorial in Kutaisi due to the connivance of local authorities. The blast killed a young woman and her 8-year-old daughter, he said

"The local authorities could not provide a simple dismantling of the memorial, which led to the tragedy," Saakashvili said

The region needs new forces which can implement reforms and conduct flexible policy, the president underscored.
