More than 677,000 new cases of novel coronavirus have been confirmed globally in the past 24 hours, which pushed a total number of infections to 157.97 million, the World Health Organization (WHO) said in its daily bulletin on Monday, Trend reports citing TASS. According to the WHO updates, the coronavirus-related deaths increased by over 11,000 to surpass 3.28 million. As of 18.15 Moscow time on May 10, as many as 157,973,438 coronavirus cases and 3,288,455 coronavirus-related deaths were registered across the globe. The number of confirmed cases grew by 677,545 in the past 24 hours and the number of fatalities increased by 11,061. The WHO statistics are based on the officially confirmed data provided by countries. South East Asia, where India is included by the WHO, accounts for more than 56% of new COVID-19 cases submitted to the WHO in the past 24 hours (385,927 cases). South and North America (167,820) goes second followed by Europe (65,404 cases). Most COVID-19 cases are recorded in the United States (32,334,764), followed by India (22,662,575), Brazil (15,145,879), France (5,685,421), Turkey (5,031,332), Russia (4,880,262), the UK (4,434,864), Italy (4,111,210), Spain (3,559,222), Germany (3,527,251), Argentina (3,136,158) and Colombia (2,985,536). The United States is the country with the highest rate of COVID-19 deaths (575,980), followed by Brazil (421,316), India (246,116), Mexico (218,928), the UK (127,605), Italy (122,833), Russia (113,326), France (105,630), Germany (84,829), Spain (78,726), Colombia (77,359) and Iran (74,910).
