The capacity of the Caspian ports of Kazakhstan will reach 25 million tons by 2020.

The increase in the ports' capacity will affect the development of the Trans-Caspian route from China to Turkey and further to Europe via Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia, said Maksat Kabashev, vice president for development at KTZ JSC, during the One Belt - One Road Forum.

Synergy of transportation and logistics systems of Kazakhstan and China is developing a new architecture of transcontinental corridors, Kabashev believes.

Development of the Trans-Caspian route involves the construction of about 700 km of new railways and over 3,000 km of highways, according to Kabashev.

“The Aktau seaport has been modernized and a new ferry complex has been built in Kuryk port, providing the most optimal route for cargo transportation from China, Central Asia and the Ural-Siberian region of Russia. In addition, the Lianyungang port has implemented a joint Kazakh-Chinese terminal project, which has become one of the key infrastructures for sending the cargo from China and other countries of Southeast Asia on high-speed trains via the Trans-Caspian route.”
