Limit prices for coal are set in the regions of Kyrgyzstan.This was announced by Keneshbay Taylakov, Deputy Director of the State Agency for Antimonopoly Regulation, at a press conference on December 1.

“In total, 140 subjects in Kyrgyzstan are engaged in the extraction and sale of coal. Of these, 50 companies are most active, for whom wholesale and retail price caps are set,” he said.

So, the price in Bishkek is set at the level of 1,500-4,000 soms per ton, in Chuy region - 1,500-5,000 soms, in Issyk-Kul region - from 3,000-6,000 soms, in Talas region – 4,000-6,500 soms. The price in Naryn region varies from 2,000 up to 4,250 soms.

According to the head of the antimonopoly authority, the prices are adjusted so that the profitability for sellers was within 10 percent.

For disobeying the decree, entrepreneurs will be fined from 10,000 to 50,000 soms.

“In addition, in December it is planned to import Kazakh coal. The delivery of 50,000 tons of Shabyrkul coal and 20,000 tons of Kara-Zhyra coal is expected,” Taylakov added.

Kyrgyzstan uses coal in order to provide the country with electricity. At the same time, construction of thermal power plants takes less time, but working on coal, they will produce more expensive electricity, while adversely affecting the environment.
