Iran has launched joint war games with the neighboring Iraq along its western and northwestern borders.

The commander of the ground forces of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour has said that the armor units alongside with artillery, drones, and helicopters have joined the drills, Tasnim news agency reported.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and the regular army of Iran earlier on Sept. 25 conducted two separated war games along the country’s western borders with Iraq.

The developments came following reports on holding a referendum on independence in northern Iraq.

Iran and Turkey are among the countries, which have urged for protecting Iraq’s territorial integrity.
