The United States does not intend to prevent Iran from exporting oil, President Donald Trump stated about this in its official notification to the Secretary of State and Finance and Energy ministers.

Such notifications are being sent by U.S. presidents to their ministers since 2012.

Trump said that the U.S. still does not need to import oil from Iran for its own market. “However, as my administration is reviewing its policy on Iran and in line with the U.S. commitment on a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Actions, the United States is not currently making efforts to reduce Iran’s crude oil sales,” Trump's notification said.

Iran, five permanent UN Security Council members, Germany and the European Union signed the JCPOA in July 2015 to ensure the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program. Then, the Islamic republic pledged to refrain from developing or acquiring nuclear weapons in exchange for the lifting of sanctions imposed against Iran.

The agreement provides that in return for verifiable abiding by its commitments, Iran receives relief from U.S., European Union, and UN Security Council nuclear-related economic sanctions.

Recently, President Donald Trump has ordered a full review of the 2015 agreement, which he has repeatedly criticized as a failure of his predecessor. 

At the same time, the U.S. retains sanctions against Iran on the missile program, human rights and on suspicion that Tehran sponsors terrorism.

Since the lifting of international nuclear sanctions on Iran in early 2016, Iran strives to regain its lost positions in the world energy market.
