Following an assassination  of the Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov on December 19, Iran closed down its consular offices in Turkey.

Thus far, the Islamic Republic has not made any decision with regards to re-opening of its consular offices.

All consular services in Iranian consulates in Turkey will remain closed until further notice, a staff with Iran’s Turkey embassy told Trend on December  20.

The Iranian embassy released a statement, calling on all the Iranians in Turkey to avoid visiting Iranian consular offices in Istanbul, Trabzon and Erzurum.

On December 19 Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov was fatally wounded by an armed gunman at an art gallery. The ambassador died later. Along with him, three other people got injured in the attack.
