20 April 2015 [12:40] - Today.Az
European Parliament’s resolution on the “Armenian genocide” is a
proof of double standards, German expert Matthias Dornfeld told Trend
Apr.20.
Dornfeld, the chairman of European Institute for Caucasus and Caspian
Studies in Berlin said he has already issued a complaint to German
members of the European Parliament regarding this issue.
Armenia and the Armenian lobby claim that Turkey's predecessor, the
Ottoman Empire allegedly carried out ”genocide” against the Armenians
living in Anatolia in 1915. Turkey in turn has always denied "the
genocide" took place. While strengthening the efforts to promote the
"genocide" in the world, Armenians have achieved its recognition by the
parliaments of some countries.
If the European Parliament members discuss this issue [“Armenian
genocide”], they should condemn the massacre committed by Armenians
against the Muslim population in East Anatolia and Caucasus in
1914-1920, Dornfeld said.
The expert added that he is starting a research project on the topic, using various archives in Germany.
The European Parliament adopted a resolution on Apr.15 urging Turkey to recognize the 1915 events as “Armenian genocide”.
The resolution said that Armenia and Turkey should use the “100th
anniversary” of the “Armenian genocide” to restore the diplomatic
relations, open borders and pave the way for economic integration.
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hikmet Hajiyev earlier said
that the resolution on “Armenian genocide” adopted by the European
Parliament on Apr.15 is unfounded, biased, is not serious and is a vivid
example for double standards. /By Trend/
