16 April 2013 [10:18] - Today.Az
Armenians have no grounds for claims regarding the 1915 events, Anadolu agency quotes Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc as saying on Tuesday.
"The Armenians have no grounds to say that the 1915 events were "genocide"", Arinc said.
He said the 1915 events should not be assessed from the point of view of the Armenians' claims, but based on the research of historians.
Turkey earlier stated that it is ready to open historical archives, Arinc said.
"The Turkish government is ready to open all archives to investigate the 1915 events. Unfortunately, Armenian officials have not yet responded to this proposal," Arinc said.
Armenia and the Armenian lobby claim that Turkey's predecessor, the Ottoman Empire committed genocide in 1915 against Armenians living in Anadolu. Their efforts have achieved the recognition of the 'Armenian Genocide' by the parliaments of several countries.
