Trade Promotion Organization of Iran has sent a delegation to Georgia, the IRNA News Agency reported.
The delegation is consisted of 15 businessmen. The trip aims at studying the investment opportunities in the Eurasian country.
Iran and Georgia have boosted their ties in the recent years. Abolition of the visa regime between Georgia and Iran has increased the number of tourists up to 90,000.
Trade turnover between the countries has increased up to $100 million, Georgian ambassador to Iran, George Janjgava said during a special event marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Iran.
According to the Iranian Embassy, the event's initiator was the Caucasus Studies Foundation of Tehran University.
The event was attended by Director of the Department of the Caucasus and the CIS countries of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Mohammad Reza Morshedzadeh, Ambassador Janjgava, Chairman of Iran's Parliamentary Friendship Group with Georgia Movaed Hossein, university lecturers and students, as well as experts.
As Janjgava said, Iran is Georgia's big neighbor, and there have been political, economic, cultural and social relations between the states not only over the past 20 years, but also before.
The meeting's participants stressed the ancient historical and cultural ties between the two countries, as well as recent changes in Georgian-Iranian relations.
In particular, the importance of the abolition of the visa regime, the development of tourism, continued attraction of Iranian investments to Georgia, an increase in trade turnover, as well as the opening of the Iranian Consulate in Batumi was stressed.
